HEROES Alliance
DIT is a proud member of HEROES - a transnational alliance of nine professional higher education institutions committed to transforming the talents of a new generation of EU citizens into superpowers that advance the smart regional resilience of people, businesses and nature.
HEROES was launched on January 1, 2025, with a mission to provide high-quality professional education to students and lifelong learners, fostering practice-oriented scientific research, and maximising collaboration opportunities between stakeholders.
HEROES equips its students, lifelong learners, lecturers, researchers and professional staff with a multidisciplinary set of entrepreneurial, transversal, intercultural, digital and green skills.
The ultimate purpose is to deliver hero-like human capital, knowledge, skills and competencies that strengthen the ability of citizens, communities, businesses, and natural environments to withstand and cope with uncertainties, changes, or disturbances; bounce back better when these occur; and seize opportunities for healthier, more inclusive, and sustainable outcomes.
The alliance includes a new joint educational offer at bachelor, master and doctoral level with a strong link to practice, a challenge-based learning programme, a practice-oriented scientific research hub and flexible learning opportunities and a wide range of alternative learning pathways for working professionals.
Together the institutions reach 120,000 students and 14,000 employees from different corners of the EU, from the associate degree to the PhD level, covering all disciplines and sectors with a distinct applied sciences perspective. The partner institutions come from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Portugal, Sweden and the Czech Republic.
HEROES stands for Higher Education for Resilience-Oriented and Empowered Societies, and the alliance is part of the EU flagship European Universities initiative.
