Not sure yet what you want to study – or even if you want to study at all? Then spend a semester or two with us at DIT to find your feet. Enrol on our orientation programme and choose from a range of foundation modules (first- and second-semester subjects) across our bachelor’s degree programmes to see if these subjects suit you.
Which direction should I take? Which degree programme suits me? How will I cope with maths and the like? You can find practical, first-hand answers to all these questions with us. You’ll then start your regular degree programme (or vocational training) with a well-informed decision. This saves you from prolonged indecision and having to change degree programmes.

With my Abitur certificate (A-levels) in hand, I applied for a degree programme, but quickly realised it wasn’t the right fit for me. I then got the recommendation to do an orientation semester at DIT, which allowed me to attend lectures in civil engineering and mechanical engineering and find a degree programme that really excites me. From my own experience, I can say that changing degree programmes involves a significant amount of time. An orientation study offers a great alternative, allowing you to resolve any doubts you may have and have the exams you’ve already passed recognised in the ‘right’ degree programme. I recommend the orientation semester to anyone who wants to gain an insight into various degree programmes and/or is unsure whether a degree programme is the right choice for them.
Overview of the Orientation Studies
Degree:
- Certificate of attendance with a grade sheet
- ECTS points earned can be recognised in a regular degree programme if they fit the content
- PLEASE NOTE: You will not receive a bachelor’s degree
Duration: 1 - 2 semesters
Study start: Winter or summer semester (winter semester is recommended, as most degree start in October)
Location: Deggendorf or Pfarrkirchen
Who can participate:
- German and EU citizens (Please check language requirements for modules/courses)
- You will not be able to apply for a visa, because you don't graduate with a degree.
Admission requirements:
- University entrance qualification
- CV and letter of motivation in German
- German Language level B2

Fees: No tuition fees, only €82 student service fee per semester

Degree Structure
All first- and second-semester modules of all non-restricted Bachelor's degree programmes at DITcan be selected. From computer science, programming, mathematics, construction, physics, to marketing and business studies and much more.
Language courses and courses from the AWP (General Studies Elective) are not available for the orientation studies.
At least two modules from two different degree programmes must be taken. The scope of the chosen modules should be at least 5 to a maximum of 30 ECTS points. ECTS is a measure of the workload of a module.
1 ECTS corresponds to 25 to 30 working hours (this includes lecture time as well as time for self-study and work at home). You can find the ECTS points for each module in the module handbook.
One semester hour per week (SWS) has a teaching duration of 45 minutes.
